About Us

Ducklings started with a single thought, one simple wish. Jane wanted to be able to care for her children at the same time as working. The solution seemed simple. She began working as a childminder in just two rooms of the basement. As each of her children grew older so took on more children and decided she wanted a friend to help, so one became two. They worked together for over a decade, watching the children grow and thrive until they attended their final years at high school.

The childminders was closed until one of Jane's children, Susan, decided she wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps and once again the building was filled with life and laughter. During all this time Sarah had moved out and pursued her degree in Art and starting a teaching career in a primary school, meeting and marrying Bob during that time.

Sarah's Dyslexia prevented her from pursuing a true teaching career, so she returned to Ducklings in 2007, this time with Jane. Eventually Jane and Mike moved out of the house and Sarah and Bob moved in with their two children.

Building work began in 2011 and was completed in September 2012, increasing the number of children Ducklings could cater for. During this time Bob had health issues and stopped working, choosing to help Sarah with Ducklings once he was well enough.

In May of 2018 Ducklings changed from a childminders and was officially registered with Ofsted as a Nursery setting. Around this time Jane retired from childcare to focus on her health and left the nursery in the capable hands of Sarah and Bob.

On the 25th of June 2021 Duckling's Childcare was rated 'Good' by Ofsted.
